Plan designed to foster a more inclusive and equitable workplace and learning environment for all

The Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) is proud to announce the launch of its first-ever Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) plan – EDI Plan: Empowering Every Voice 2025 – an exciting and meaningful step forward in our shared commitment to creating a more inclusive, equitable, and supportive community for everyone.

"The launch of JIBC’s new EDI plan reflects our ongoing dedication to fostering a culture where every individual feels valued, respected and supported,” said 黨ƷPresident and CEO Len Goerke. “This initiative will not only help create a more supportive and inclusive working environment for our employees, it will enhance the educational experience for our diverse student body and better prepare them to be leaders in public safety professions that depend on inclusion and understanding."

Plan aims to ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive

The launch of our new EDI plan is a pivotal step in fostering a culture of belonging for students, faculty, and staff at JIBC. By aligning with JIBC's vision and strategic goals, this plan supports our ongoing commitment to building safer communities and a more just society. It works to remove barriers and enhance accessibility for all, ensuring that everyone – regardless of background – has the opportunity to thrive.

Additionally, the plan strengthens our dedication to social justice by ensuring compliance with key legislative mandates, such as the Accessible British Columbia Act, and reinforcing our responsibility to create an inclusive and equitable environment for all members of our community.

Seven key focus areas

The EDI plan is structured around seven key focus areas to embed these principles across JIBC:

  1. Student Experience – Enhancing inclusivity in learning and engagement.
  2. Curriculum, Pedagogy and Faculty – Embedding EDI into teaching practices.
  3. Client and Partner Relationships – Ensuring equity in external partnerships and contracts.
  4. Culture and Leadership – Strengthening leadership accountability and inclusion.
  5. Employee Experience – Fostering a fair, diverse, and supportive workplace.
  6. Communications and Engagement – Ensuring inclusive and accessible communication.
  7. Built Environment – Creating accessible, welcoming spaces for all.

How to get involved

We invite all members of the 黨Ʒcommunity to learn more about the EDI plan and become actively involved in making our campus more inclusive and equitable. Together, we can create an environment where diversity is celebrated, and all individuals have the chance to achieve their fullest potential.
